My sister's local. Love this place. Relaxed family pub with great music, beer and food. Lovely helpfull staff.
Dropped in at last minute and had a Sunday lunch which was beautiful although they skimmed on beef. After commenting to my husband about the lovely fresh vegetables I decided to order fruit crumble and custard. I asked what fruit and was told it was assorted. It arrived and looked delicious with the crumble topping. It was when I started eating I realised it was a tin of cheap fruit cocktail with crumble on top. I did mention my disappointment to the waitress who did apologise. At 4.95 this was a rip off.
After visiting the Malt Shovel on numerous occasions the food is usually ok. But the staff are miserable and somewhat rude. They are not friendly at all its almost like a hassle for them to serve you and their face says it all. Please Pickles Pubs sort you staff out. Its a lovely pub and fab in summer!
Just had Sunday lunch here again, on our annual visit to the area all eleven of us; including three children and two vegetarian's.The food is delicious and large portion's and even the children's meals looked well presented.very cosy in the winter with a real fire and large outdoor area in the summer, can't fault this place, we alway's look forward to visiting The Malt.
First time I have visited. .first impressions very good,great outdoor space..we had our meal around 7pm so was not too busy..the young waiter's were really friendly and helpful. ..I had the Sunday dinner which was good..the vegetables were a tad bit crunchy for me...I suppose it would be very difficult to get it right for everyone. definitely try again!
